What Do We Mean By “High Quality” Door Installation?

What Do We Mean By “High Quality” Door Installation? So many things! Whenever I think of this, I think of that saying “Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching”. It means always doing each step of the install with the same degree of care, no matter if you are tired, in a hurry, or stressed out.
All well and good for me, as I have being doing construction, including door installations for over 35 years. I know what is behind the drywall, what is under the threshold, I know what I should see above the door jamb. And I know what is a deal breaker, and what is just a minor inconvenience to the install.

But, how do I impart this to an employee or even a fellow subcontractor? How do I explain to them “how close is close enough” for the level of quality I desire in the company projects?
One way I do this for myself is to have a system. I always do everything in a particular order. That way, I don’t forget steps or do them out of sequence.
This system allows me to train my employees to do it in the same way. And the system grounds everybody for when things are different than the norm. And even then, we have a system for what to do next.
Then, we monitor the work done by each of our co-workers to make sure that they are using the system to gain the experience and confidence to do their work with this same degree of “high quality”.
We are not perfect, mistakes will be made. When this happens, we discuss what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening again. And then we rock on!
It’s a brand new day, listen well and make it a great one!
