Back in January we were going to talk about values. Then we had record breaking cold, unusual snowstorms, and now unprecendented rainfall and it’s not even the typical monsoon season. Homeowners don’t want their front doors off in any of this weather. This has made it hard to write about running the business – actually it has just made it hard to even run the business. But, summer is almost here and the weather should start to settle down soon.
It’s times like this when I think that company values hold the company up when all else fails. We haven’t formerly sat down and discussed ours – but, we talk about them every day in one way or another. I am going to make a command decision and declare them in the blog post. Charlie and Linda can add their thoughts separately.
Here is my list in order of importance:
Quality of craftsmanship. I think Linda will say quality of delivery.
2) Great Customer Service
I debated about putting this one first. But, if our quality of delivery and craftsmanship is topnotch then we have given great customer service. On the other hand, if our quality has not been up to my standards for some reason, then our follow through with the customer must be even more topnotch. Long time ago I learned the hard way that when you have partners, employees or subcontractors on staff, they will do things differently than you – and maybe sometimes not to the same level of quality. I learned that expecting perfectionism is out – we are all human and can’t be perfect. All we can do is strive for excellence in all that we do.
3) High Employee Satisfaction
I want to create a place where I would want to work. This means meaningful work with intresting people who value my skills, needs, hopes and dreams. So, that means we have to create a place where our employees are valued for all of those things. What does that mean exactly? I don’t know yet. All I know is that if we set that as our goal, we will reach it.
It’s a brand new day, listen well and make it a great one!
