Everyone needs a love story
Initially, they were going to perform the blood clot removing surgery at Lutheran, where we both were. So they sent me to my room and got everything set up for him. A few minutes later, they wheeled Chuck out of his room to take him to the OR. I looked up right as they were going by. He also saw me in my room and stopped the nurses from going any further. That day, he had 2 male nurses and I had 2 female nurses. He asked them to wheel him in my room so he could visit with me for a few minutes. They were hesitant and then decided to do so. So the 6 of us were crammed in this room with 2 beds. It was a magical moment suspended in time. And I swear to God that I saw little heart emojis surrounding all of us. We all behaved like we were getting away with some incredible feat and we shared a sense of excitement, wonder and joy. The doctor brought us back to reality with a demand to get him to the OR. But, just for that moment in time, we 6 were a part of a beautiful love story. I hope that this moment stays with those nurses during the hard hard times when they are helping their patients fight for their lives. Maybe it will give them a moment of happiness in their darkest hour.
